Rain washes out Day 2 of Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 3rd Test 2012

Heavy rain forced the second day of the third and final Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Monday to be abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Australian umpires Simon Taufel and Steve Davis called off play in the afternoon with dark clouds indicating more rain to come.

Sri Lanka were struggling at 44 for 3 in response to Pakistan’s first innings of 226.

Sri Lanka lead 1-0 in the series after winning the first Test by 209 runs at Galle. A placid pitch at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo ensured the second Test last week ended in a draw.

Sri Lanka are looking for their first Test series win since beating New Zealand at home in 2009.

The third day’s play has been scheduled for a 9.45am start, 15 minutes earlier than usual.
